Notice to Veterans of WWII and the Korean Conflict
Regarding a High School Diploma
A new law was passed (Operation Recognition) for any veteran who served in World War II or the Korean conflict who was unable, for any reason, to complete a secondary education, may be awarded a HS diploma based on knowledge and experience gained while in service. The rules for awarding diplomas are:
- Candidates must submit evidence of service (Dec. 7, 1941-Dec. 31, 1946) or (June 27, 1950-Jan. 31, 1955).
- Candidates do not need to show evidence of attendance at a school in NYS, only to affirm in writing that they do not possess a high school diploma.
- Candidates possessing a High School Equivalency (or GED) diploma are eligible for the program.
- Diplomas may be awarded to next of kin, if eligibility is established.
